Rebuilding Continues in Texas Jan 6, 2019
On Sunday we attended Sunday School and the Church service at the Port Lavaca First United Methodist Church.
On Monday we met with Jim Worley (our Project Manager) at the first house on Oakland St. in Seadrift, Texas. The home is a single wide mobile home that has been worked on by other volunteers and we were there to finish it up and get the homeowner into his home.
This week we tore down drywall on the ceilings in a bedroom, utility room and a closet. We replaced some wood, insulation and drywalled the ceilings. Afterwards Jayne demonstrated how to spray a textured ceiling which she did rather well.
We prepped the floors for the laminate flooring which we started Thursday afternoon. We painted the entire home and also did some repairs to the walls. We also washed down the inside of the home as it has not been lived in for quite some time and checked out plumbing issues for the plumber coming in to fix.
We as a team had an amazing time together. Richard and Ann are amazing chefs and they cooked for us 3 times this week, needless to say it was awesome! On Monday we helped prepare and serve the weekly dinner to the homeless/needy in this community. Afterwards we also got in a game of Mexican Dominos!
Overall it was a fun and very rewarding week in Port Lavaca, the weather was rainy and cold but we had a great time together. We had to say goodbye to Jane and Joe, Richard and Ann, and also Sam. They are all going further down into Texas for other projects.
