Team Hattiesburg Weekly Report 4-28-18

This past week in Hattiesburg was a busy one.  First, Nula joined our team on Saturday. On Monday we returned to Brother Bill’s house and finished installing the living room hardwood flooring.  After the installation was completed, Gene and Gary, using small hand-held power sanders, sanded the floor to remove markings from shipping and to smooth out a few rough areas.  Sharon worked on the door threshholds between the kitchen and living room, and the dining room and living room.  The flooring ...

Baton Rouge Weekly Report 4-27-18

Saturday we welcomed Dave and Carol.  They will take over the leadership for next week’s team.  After their arrival we planned to go downtown to the USS Kidd, but a Tom Hanks movie is being filmed so it was closed. So—we decided to go to the state capitol building.  It is a very tall building (30+ stories) and we were only allowed to go to the observation floor because the first floor was closed for shooting a scene for the Tom Hanks movie!  We enjoyed the afternoon and went out to Rice and Roux...

Hattiesburg, Mississippi Disaster Rebuild project April 16th to April 19th. This past week we saw Dennis and Nancy, and Larry and Mary depart.  Gary and Sharon assumed the lead from Dennis and Nancy.  The rest of the team Gene and Mary Ann, Butch and Cheri, and Stephen, stayed also for the next few weeks. We finished the fifth week of work here in Hattiesburg, Mississippi for the spring 2018 period. We had a team of 9 Nomads this week and are still working on the 3 homes assigned to us. At the Rebecca street home we completed the bedrooms and the computer room on Monday. This just finished our third week of work here in Hattiesburg, Mississippi since our arrival the first of March. At this point we have completed two homes that had been assigned to us and started on two more. One is in Hattiesburg for a disabled veteran and the other home is in Petal for a retired Methodist minister. This is work from the F4 tornado that struck the area in January of 2017. Week One Baton Rouge, LA, 3/12-3/15/2018 This week kicked off the spring DR in Baton Rouge. The week one team was Barb and Mike, fulltimers from PA, Mark and Jo, full-timers from Iowa, Mark and Lisa from LA, Dave and Rita from AL, led by Max and Anne from AL. We all arrived by Saturday afternoon and settled in to our RV sites in the parking lot at Francis Asbury UMC. Fall Oklahoma DR final report - Dec. 26, 2017

We were able to finish six homes in a five week period. We had some old timers but had five first project ever NOMADS. We got David's flooring and trim finished and new skirting on his trailer. LeAnn got five new windows. Teena and Willie's home got new drywall in four bedrooms and new flooring in the bedrooms and hall. We also redid the skirting on their home. The last week of the season in Hattiesburg It is hard to believe that we have finished the fall DR project in Hattiesburg.  We have met a lot of people and made friends in the area.  People at church have asked us to come back to visit them.   John has been so helpful and is at the house every day.  He surprised us by bringing pizza and pop for lunch today.  He is grateful for the help we have been able to give him.  His Baptist church is sponsoring this house and John and some of his friends ...
