Disaster Rebuilding in Florida - Nov 1, 2019

It is hard to believe that we have finished the fourth week of work here in the Keys.  The plumber has dug the trench for the water line and the pipe has been installed.  The electrician has also put in the wiring for the sites. We still need the sewer line to be dug.  Phillip Decker, who is heading up the relief project here, also helped dig some of the trenches with the machines that the plumbers brought.  On Friday, 11/1, the inspector may be out.  We should be into our new sites some time ...

Lumberton North Carolina Disaster Rebuild October 20 - 25, 2019 Nancy and I arrived in Lumberton on Thursday October 17th, and after getting our RV parked we went to visit the team that was working on Ms. Charlene’s house, as our team was going to take over the work from Vince and Diane who had plans for an early departure. They had repaired the kitchen floor and painted much of the kitchen and living room area during their time here. On Friday we visited another work site for our team to ...

Florida Rebuilding Oct 25, 2019

10/21-10/24 in the Florida Keys Gene read in a local paper that over 300 homes in Big Pine Key were either destroyed or damaged over 50% and 125 of those are now vacant lots.  Because of this, the traffic flow on US 1 is better than in the past.  This past Saturday evening we played a game of Apples to Apples in Freeman’s RV.  We all had a good time and Larry was the winner.  Sunday we went to church and some stayed for the lunch afterwards. Monday we had planned to go to Kenny’s to work on ...

Weekly Team Report Florida DR Oct 18, 2019

October 14-17 at Big Pine Key This week has been quite warm—high 80’s with heat index over 100.  Most of the work has been in air conditioning.  For the outside work we had to take frequent breaks and hydrate at those breaks.   Sunday we all went to church.  After church we enjoyed having lunch at the church.  The church members have been very welcoming and are glad that we are here.  We will need to stay a third week at the RV park.  Hopefully, we will be staying at the church at the end of ...

Florida Keys Disaster Rebuilding Team Report Oct 11, 2019

Hi from Southern Florida! We have experienced different conditions than we expected.  The team is parked in a campground between Big Pine Key and Key West.  The area has experienced high tides (King Tide) and almost daily rain and sometimes windy conditions and of course, pesky biting insects. To get to the campground from US 1, we drive through salt water and need to hose down the bottom of our cars daily.  Our team all arrived safely and consists of Sara Donaldson, Kevin and Laura Denison, ...

Wisconsin Disaster Rebuilding Continues - Aug 26, 2019

Wisconsin Report 8/17-23 This week we said goodbye to Tom and Jenny as they headed to Michigan to lead another project. Thanks for all your hard work! We welcomed Nancy and Gary to Wisconsin this week. Our temperatures have cooled down with a low one morning of 46 and most of the daily highs were in the 70’s. Really nice place to be in August. This week we continued to work on Nate’s house. By the end of the week, all the walls were up, windows were installed, and sub-floor was down. That means ...
