2008 FALL RTPs - Revolving Team Projects

  •  Hinton Rural Life Center, Hayesville, NC

  •  Caswell Springs UMC in Moss Point, MS

12 Weeks starting October 6th through Dec. 15th, 2008

What is an RTP?

It is simply a project that allows you to pick your own times to come and the length of

time you stay. NOMADS have indicated an interest in more flexibility, so we are trying two of our agencies

with flexible scheduling.

You may sign up for as many one-week increments as you choose.

You may sign up for as little as one week, or as much as the full 8 weeks.

Schedules

Work weeks will be normal NOMADS hours, four days per week. We will ask new arrivals to come on Saturday afternoon or Sunday, prior to the Monday you will start working, and to leave by noon on Saturday following the last week you will be working.

We NEED LEADERS in 3-week increments for both of these projects.

Teams will have a max of 8 units. To insure a smooth transition, leaders should arrive NLT Thursday the week before they start leading. This will allow sufficient time to get to know the project logistics and contact people.

Both of these agencies have great staff and have had lots of NOMADS in the past.

Hinton Rural Life Center is located in the Blue Ridge mountains of western North Carolina, overlooking

Lake Chatuge. Please visit their website at www.hintoncenter.org for more information. The folks at Hinton

have several things going on with which they need our assistance. They are very involved in an affordable

housing program and are building 6 to 7 houses at any one time. They also have ongoing maintenance at

their facility which has 15+ buildings and which will need a lot of upkeep at the end of their busy summer

season, including painting, light carpentry and repairs, as well as gardening, yard work and office assistance.

They have FHU sites and also could provide housing in one of their on-site apartments.

NEW RTP for this FALL…..Caswell Springs UMC in Moss Point, MS   This area was devastated by Hurricane Katrina and will have ongoing work for some time.  We have decided to change all 3 regular projects into an RTP (revolving team project) in hopes that more will be able to sign up.  Those of you who are already signed up will not be affected by this change.  You may sign up for as little as 1 week, or as many as all 11 weeks, depending upon availability.  The first week starts October 6th, and the last week starts December 15th.  We will likely not work on Thanksgiving Day.  All weeks have openings and leaders are in place.  Please email if you can join this effort.
