Week 4 in Lawton - April 29th
This past week in Lawton, Oklahoma, was another great week for our NOMADS Disaster Rebuild team. We started the week out again with church at the Hunting Horse United Methodist Church. We are always blessed by the love we feel from the congregation there. After church our team, and the church pastor, went to lunch at a 50’s themed restaurant. The pastor and his wife, one Comanche, the other Kiowa, gave us a history lesson about the Indians of this area. It was good hearing these stories from those that have lived the history.
On Monday we went back to Anna’s house to work more on her home. By Wednesday afternoon we had finished our work. The house painting was done, new gutters installed, floor repaired, inside wall paneling removed and replaced with new sheet rock and painted, two window air conditioners installed, and porch rails painted. We had a grand time.
The hardest part of this project was leaving Anna, Daks, and Dottie. Anna is such a warm and loving person. We all grew to love her. She spent as much time with us as she could. Daks and Dottie, her two dogs, also spent a lot of time with us. They would come a running when they saw us coming up the driveway.
On Thursday we started another small project. We are removing the old wall board in a bathroom that had damage from a roof leak. After removing the old wall board you could see the damage caused by the leak. We had to spray for mold that had developed on the wood behind the wall board. We plan on returning Monday and hopefully install new wall board.
Next week will be a short week for our remaining team members. Due to a carnival/fair moving into the fairgrounds next week, we will be leaving on Wednesday. The carnival will be taking over our parking area.
Richard and Linda, and Jack and Barb, are leaving this week. They have been great team members, we will miss them. Morris and Karen are remaining with us for next week.
NOMADS will be returning to Oklahoma again in October. Please be in prayer for those here that need help in restoring their homes so they can resume their lives. Also, be in prayer to see if the Lord may be leading you to join this project.
