NOMADS Disaster Rebuild
11/17/2011
Your NOMADS Organization is very responsive to the need for reaction and service needed to assist others following disastrous events. At the Annual Meeting in Forest City, Iowa, in September, 2011, the Board of Directors elected to change the direction of our Disaster efforts for others. Since 2006, Disaster efforts were provided through the efforts of all NOMADS, under direction and guidance from the Disaster Response Committee (DRC). Since that time, much has changed in the area of services following a Disaster, and the NOMADS Organization recognizes that we are not in a position to provide immediately relief, but rather, we will continue to provide response in the area defined as Disaster Rebuilding Committee (DRC).
A committee was established and has hit the ground running, and has spent considerable time in review of the need, and ability to serve, in the rebuilding process for Alabama, Arkansas and Mississippi areas that were seriously damaged and/or devastated by tornadoes this past summer.
All NOMADS projects, whether they be regular (3-week) projects or Disaster Rebuilding Projects, will be coordinated by the efforts of the Project Coordination Committee (PCC). As a result of this re-identification, DR projects will be a part of the PCC. This may sound complicated, but it will provide coordination of project service in all areas of NOMADS involvement.
Yes, this may very well bring back the Revolving Team Projects (RTPs), as we have known them in the past, to satisfy member requirements in serving the needs identified. Many members of the committee have been active in identifying the opportunity for service from the Disaster Rebuilding Committee efforts in early 2012. This is not a plea for you to keep your calendar free, but merely to alert you to the fact that your NOMADS Organization is active to respond to the needs following a natural disaster.
NOMADS has been identified to mean several things, but the true meaning of this organization is exemplified by the many willing servants who are willing to serve others' needs, whether they be following a disaster or more common in nature, in serving our Lord and Savior in building His Kingdom.
